Tradition Meets Comfort: My Stay at the Curio Collection Heritage Hotel Al Seef in Dubai
This year I was lucky and got to travel to Dubai on a business trip – right at the perfect time, during peak travel season! Our business hotel was located on The Palm, however, aside from the convention center, the towering high-rises linig the streets and our hotel at night time, there wasn’t really anything we had the time for, to truly experience the city.
From Business Trip to Mini Getaway – Hotel Hunting with Priorities
So I spontaneously decided to extend my stay for two extra days on my own.
Choosing the right hotel was a bit of a hazzle though. I wanted something comfortable, centrally located near the souks – my absolute must visit on a trip to Dubai. Ideally, the hotel would also be in a charming area for that vacation freeling and, if possible, have a pool. I was already familiar with the souk area from previous visits, so I knew they are clustered around the Dubai Creek and easily accessible by the Abras – traditional wooden boats, that mostly locals take. But more on that later.
My Hotel Pick: Curio Collection Heritage Hotel Al Seef
After some research, I came across the Curio Collection Heritage Hotel Al Seef, which is part of the Hilton Group and it immediately sparked my interest. Al Seef is a charming district located right on the Dubai Creek. On the northern edge of the neighborhood, there is a pedestrian-only area, inspired by the traditional Dubai – complete with clay-style buildings and narrow lanes.
And that is exactly where the hotel is located – tucked right into the heart of this traditionally designed pedestrian area. It blends seamlessly into the souk because the guest rooms are located on the upper levels.

Between Souk Life & History: Location and Atmosphere
Al Seef has been designed to resemble an old-style, traditional souk, with narrow alleys and shops selling everything from textiles and spices to local treats. The hotel is barely noticable at first sight and easy to miss: It’s mostly on the first or second floor of the buildings, hidden in plain sight, above the shops. You really can’t get more central than this!
Tip: Use the Hilton App to choose your preferred room in advance. It’s super convenient, especially for solo travelers or those who want to snag a view over the Creek. That’s what I did!
A Warm Welcome: Arabic Hospitality at Check-in
The Check-in is located on the main street, accessible by car and feels refreshingly cool – like stepping into a traditional Middle Eastern lounge. Guests are welcomed with a very delicious hibiscus drink and luggage is taken care of and transported to your room via golf cart. That short ride gives you the perfect first impression of the hotel and surroundings.

Rooms and Atmosphere: Peace Above the Buzz
Unless it’s early in the morning, Al Seef is always bustling. Vendors and shopkeepers fill the area with a lively charm and will try to get you to look at their offerings. There are scarves, spices, sweets, perfumes – you name it! Then, seeminly out of nowhere, you duck into a corner, find an elevator and suddenly you’re upstairs, looking down on the action from your peaceful hotel room.
A Vibrant Souk Below – Quiet Comfort Above
The moment you step out of the elevator it is surprisingly peaceful. The hallways are like a maze and offer cozy sitting areas around some corners. My personal favorite was a shaded nook with a direct view over the Creek. Even the wooden doors to each room are impressive – you really feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Nostalgic Charm: Inside my Heritage-Inspired Room
The Rooms are decorated in old Arabian Style, but with a luxurious twist. The beds are SO comfortable! The wooden furniture, lattice-covered windows and charming details like the old-school oil lamp turned nighlight or a vintage rotary-style phone, create a sense of timeless elegance. Yet nothing is missing: from shampoo and body lotion to toothbrushes and conditioner, everything is there. And if there isn’t you sure could request it.

Stylish Bathroom with Vintage Personality
The Bathroom was another highlight, not large but enough space. Copper and brass fixtures complement the vintage feel and my personal highlight: the shower floor is tiled with beautiful oriental patterns. The concrete florring and minimalist design are elegant but not at all boring.

Breakfast Worth Getting Lost For
Breakfast is served in a separate building and you can either walk or request a golf cart (which I eventually did after getting lost in the winding alleys – twice!). The breakfast possibilities were very diverse: from Middle Eastern dishes to Western classics, fresh fruit, all kinds of breads, cereals and made-to-order eggs – it served everything you heart may desire!
Souks, Shopping & Getting Around
My room overlooked Al Seef’s main pedestrian street. Initially I worried it might be loud, but the stretched shade sails across the alleys softened the noise and also offered a welcome escape from the sun while walking and shopping.

This hotel truly shines with its incredible location! Two metro lines stop nearby, along with various bus routs. The little abras will take you directly to the gold souk for just two dirhams and the textile souk is just a short walk away. You don’t even need to leave the area to find restaurants and shops in a wide range of price points. It is especially great of women travelling alone, as the area feels lively, safe and is walkable.
Only Downside? There’s no pool on-site. However, there’s a workaround: guests can use the pool at the sister property nearby – just a short 7-minute ride by golf cart away, I was told. If I was planning a lonver vacation focused on relaxing, I therefore might choose a different place. But for a short cultural trip to Dubai? This hotel was absolutely a total win!!
My Takeaway: A Must-Stay in Traditional Dubai
If you’re looking to experience a near traditional Dubai without giving up modern comfort, this is the right place for you. I’d book the Curio Collection Heritage Hotel Al Seef again in a heartbeat – for its atmosphere, location and authticity. It’s ideal for solo travelers, women or anyone interested in local culture. The quality is excellent, the surroundings are unforgettable and everything you need is right at the doorstep: metro, buses, abras.
I was 100% happy with my stay!
